In India, PAN stands for Permanent Account Number. It’s a unique alphanumeric identifier issued by the Income Tax Department to individuals, entities, or taxpayers, primarily for the purpose of tracking financial transactions and ensuring tax compliance.
Documents Required for PAN Card in India
To apply for a PAN card in India, certain documents are required. Here’s a general list of documents commonly needed for PAN card application:

Proof of Identity (PoI): Any one of the following documents can be submitted as PoI:
- Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI
- Voter ID card
- Driving License
- Passport
- Ration card with a photograph of the applicant

Proof of Address (PoA): Any one of the following documents can be submitted as PoA:
- Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI
- Voter ID card
- Driving License
- Passport
- Bank account statement
- Utility bill (electricity, water, gas) not more than 3 months old
- Property tax assessment order
- Domicile certificate issued by the government

Proof of Date of Birth (DoB): Any one of the following documents can be submitted as DoB proof:
- Birth certificate issued by the Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue birth and death certificates by the Registrar of Births & Deaths
- Passport
- Matriculation certificate
- Aadhaar card
- Driving License
- Pension payment order

Photographs: Two recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant are required.
The applicant needs to provide self-attested copies of these documents along with the PAN card application form. The documents should be valid, clear, and not expired.
Additionally, the process for applying for a PAN card can be done online through the NSDL or UTIITSL portals by filling out the required form and providing the necessary documents.
